What would say the followers of Popeye if, suddenly, found out that the sailor obtained his force of the marijuana and not of the spinach?
It happens that, apparently, he was of that drug from where came the energy that the emblematic animated personage “needed” to fight against badly. Magazine Twenty-three published this week a note in which reflects an article of the Canadian publication Culture Cannabis, in which they assure that the force of Popeye came from the marijuana and that the spinach was a metaphor.
The strip was created by the sketcher Elzie Segar, in 1929, in the heat of decade in which spinach was a word-code to mean marijuana. “The Spinach Song” was a song recorded in 1938 by the jazz band Julia Lee and to her Boyfriend, in which a clear reference to the spinach like metaphor became of the drug.

Popeye

Among another one of the causes that the magazine uses figure that was the sailors first who introduced the marijuana in the American culture. The certain thing is that whenever Popeye consumed the magical grass, it arrived at the imminent defeat of his enemies.
But there would be more causes by those than the magazine justifies its hypothesis. As they are it some chapters in which its culture of spinach is seen the sailor taking care of, that remember a cannabis garden, and others in which appears loading a package of “pure Bolivian spinach” (as it was ***reflxed mng in the wrapper).
Another one of the indications is that the propaganda antimarijuana of the time maintained that the grass caused a superior force, like the spinach that consumed the sailor. Thus the things, the certain thing is that - from interpretations the personage got more there to be one of most famous of the world.
